Ministerial Consultation on Overseas Employment and Contractual Labour for Countries of Origin and Destination in Asia (Abu Dhabi Dialogue)

The Ministerial Consultation on Overseas Employment and Contractual Labour for Countries of Origin and Destination in Asia will be hosted by the Government of the Untied Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi on 21-22 January 2008.

The theme of this event is “Contractual Labour Mobility in Asia: 5 Key Partnerships for Development between Countries of Origin and Destination” with the purpose of highlighting the potential of contractual labour to benefit overseas workers as well as the development of countries of origin and destination in Asia.

This meeting in Abu Dhabi is the first to be hosted by a country of destination. It is expected to strengthen cooperation between countries of origin and destination while continuing to provide a forum for the participating 11 Asian labour source countries to share their views and experiences in the field of

labour mobility policies, review the implementation of recommendations of the Bali Consultations , and identify further steps for the effective management of labour mobility and temporary contractual labour for the benefit of all concerned.
   
The 11 Asian labour source countries that constitute the core of this ongoing dialogue will be joined by Gulf Cooperation Council states as well as the countries of destination in Asia , making a total of 22 participating countries. Observer status is extended to 9 other countries from Europe and other continents as well as to 14 regional and international organizations.
